    Welcome!  I am so excited to teach this course and to get to know each and every one of you.  Please note - ALL important information having to do with this course (including the syllabus, in-class assignments/work, homework, study guides, due dates/upcoming assignments, and anncoucements) are on Blackboard.  Please refer to that first when looking for class course information.  Also, always feel free to come talk to me and/or email me with a question or concern.

      

    Why does English class matter? 

    My 5 reasons as to why I believe that English class matters: 

    1. The basic skills that we learn in English class (i.e. using correct spelling and grammar, analyzing, researching, discussing ideas, formulating sentences based on our own ideas, etc.) are essential to ANY job/workplace setting.  Ever heard of a resume?? 
    2. Taking a look at someone else's lifestyle and perspective on important topics helps us to take a look at our own life and experiences in a different way. 
    3. Literature is so important in our culture.  Just think: Your favorite TV show has probably made a literary reference at some point in time.
    4. Studying characters in literature teaches us to empathize with others.
    5. Studying literature is the same thing as studying humankind.  Characters and themes teach us how to be better overall humans.
