Each year, the Science Bowl club forms in the Fall.  All interested students are welcome to be part of the Science Bowl Club and participate in the practice sessions during the year.  However, not all club members will compete at the Science Bowl regional tournament. 

Students who are interested in joining the club will go through two preliminary rounds of testing.  In the first round, students will take a paper/pencil test to quiz their knowledge in the content that Science Bowl covers.  In the second round, students go “head-to-head” against several other students in the quiz bowl format that is used at the Science Bowl.  This tests both their content knowledge and their competition performance.  Results of this preliminary testing help group students into practice squads.

Places on the competition teams are determined by the combined score from preliminary testing rounds, and by performance at team practices over the course of several months.   Typically, a school is allowed to register 2 or 3 teams of 5 students (4 members plus an alternate) for a total of 15 students who will compete at the regional tournament in late February/early March.

The top five performers will make up competition Team One, the next five make Team Two, and the next five make Team Three.  Other club members are welcome to come to the Science Bowl regional tournament as score keepers, assistants and observers, but won’t be registered with the Department of Energy as contestants.
