Dear Parents,
I am so excited that we were given the opportunity to purchase the We Both Read series! This is a series of highly-engaging books in which both the child and the adult read together. The series contains both fiction and nonfiction titles. The books are designed so that the parent and the child take turns reading aloud alternating pages. The parent’s pages feature higher level text to help engage the child, while the child’s pages match the child’s reading level. They are a wonderful way to engage your child in fun, enjoyable text, while also improving his/her reading. They are able to hear text fluently read, while also practicing their own decoding skills on appropriate text.
Your child may choose to bring these home periodically. They will come home in a baggie with some information and tips for using them. Please read this book with your child and return when completed. It does not have to be completed in one night; however, they are in high demand, so please make sure to return them when finished.
Due to the higher level of complexity in these books, they are also great for discussion afterward to help improve comprehension! Some examples of this are: asking your child questions afterward; having him or her draw of picture of their favorite part; have him or her list/draw different facts they learned; or draw a picture of their favorite character and list describing words for that character. Those are just some examples of different activities! There are also comprehension quizzes for some of them. These do not have to be completed, but are great practice!
In this baggie, you will find the book along with a “Tips for Parents” sheet. This informational sheet provides different tips and ways to help use the book in the home. It has some great ideas! As always, I am also available to answer any questions you may have about the books. Thank you for your support in your child’s reading!
Happy Reading!
