Referrals are usually made when there are concerns about changes in behavior or attitude, the appearance of at risk behaviors, or other difficulties that seem likely to interfere with the student's success at school.
Teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators may refer a student by completing the Student Assistance Referral Form.Parents may initiate the referral process by contacting the student assistance coordinator, guidance counselors, administrators or any other member of the Student Assistance Team. Parents will be asked to give permission for the student to participate in the Student Assistance Program and to complete a parent information checklist. Before deciding to refer a student, please contact the student's teachers and guidance counselor to discuss concerns and develop other strategies that may help address the student's needs.
Students may refer themselves or another student by contacting a guidance counselor, administrator, any teacher on the Student Assistance Team, or by completing the Student Referral Form.
The Referral Process- All referrals are managed by two Student Assistance Team members. After collecting information, the team facilitators contact parents to share the information and explain the Student Assistance Program.
- The Student Assistance Team will develop and implement an action plan consisting of strategies and supports for the student. Both parents and the student referred will have an opportunity to provide input for the action plan.
The student assistance facilitators meet with the student on a regular basis to implement the action plan. Facilitators will also communicate with parents as well as the student's teachers to share progress and collect feedback.Skill Building GroupsSkill Building Groups are educationally based groups that meet once per week during the school day for approximately eight weeks. Group meetings are rotated each week to avoid having students missing the same class each week. All groups are facilitated by a specialist from Mercy Behavioral Health and one member of the Ingomar Middle School Student Assistance Team.
Group facilitators use a combination of discussion, games, and other activities that allow students to explore the various topics and develop techniques they can use in their daily lives at school.Topics
