• BACK TO SCHOOL PARENT LETTER

    2021-2022

    Dear 2C Parents,

Welcome back to school! The purpose of this letter is to simply fill you in on a few things that will be happening at school and in our classroom during the year. It covers some introductory information and policies that will assist you and your child in making a smooth transition to second grade. Please consider reading the EXPECTATIONS letter on my website (under Parent Information) as well and review the district calendar/website, Peebles website, and my website for important information. Most everything you should need throughout the year will be located on one of those websites or in Blackboard. Please check them out!

Curriculum Night: The second grade curriculum night will be held on virually on Thursday, September 9th from 6:30 to 8:30. Starting at 6:30 you will report to your child's classroom, Room 21/2C, where I will give a detailed description of the curriculum and events to look forward to during the year. The evening will begin with a brief introduction from Mrs. Bjalobok and several special area teachers. I hope to see you there.

Absent Procedures: If your child is absent from school, it IS necessary that you send a written excuse with your child when he/she returns to school.  If your child is going to be late coming to school, please pack a lunch or call the school prior to 9:20 a.m. to order a lunch.

Homework Policy & Assignment Book: Each night your child will bring home their Peebles homework folder and their assignment book.  Please be sure to go through all papers every evening and empty the take home side each day. I require my students to write their assignments daily, even if they have no homework. There may be important test dates or events listed. I will model writing the assignments on a poster and your child will be required to copy the information.  It will be written in class and checked by me daily.  Homework will be given usually Monday through Thursday and occasionally on Fridays.  Please review and sign the assignment book on a nightly basis.  This nightly routine will make turning in homework each morning quick and easy for your child. If you write a note to me in your child’s assignment book it is their responsibility to show it to me!

Assignment Notices:  I view homework assignments as opportunities for students to practice skills and concepts on their own. It is important that your child complete the homework assignments to the best of his/her ability.  I do check for completion of assignments. Homework assignments that are not complete or not turned in will be recorded. After each missed/incomplete homework assignment a Missed Assignment Notice will be stapled to the missed/incomplete assignment. This notice is a communication tool, not a punishment. Please sign the assignment notice, and your child will be required to return both the signed notice and the completed assignment the next day.

Bus & Parent Pick Up Information: Your child will be sent home on the bus daily unless we have a parental note stating otherwise.  Please CALL THE OFFICE if you plan on picking your child up that day and forgot to send a note as I am only able to check my email at certain times during the day. If your child is picked up routinely, one note can be kept on file in the office, stating the days of pick up per week and the length of time.  I will be sure to post this as a reminder.

Recess/Room Temperature: The room temperature can be very unpredictable at times and doesn’t always respond to adjustments to the thermostat. Your child may want to dress in layers or keep a sweater or sweatshirts in his/her backpack. The children will be outside for recess unless it is raining or extremely cold. Please dress your child suitably, despite weather conditions that morning. Thirty minutes of recess can be a long time if your child is not dressed appropriately. Also, please label all of your child’s jackets and accessories to avoid confusion when it’s time to get ready to go outside.

Birthdays: Children love to celebrate their birthdays! Please feel free to send in a treat to share with the class, there are 23 students in our room. Due to several health issues we ask that the students bring in non-edible treats such as pencils, erasers, or small trinkets, or donate a board game to our class for indoor recess. He/she may choose to have an extra indoor/outdoor recess as a treat as well.  Children with summer birthdays may wish to celebrate their half-birthday six months from the real day.

**Please do NOT send birthday invitations to school. We ask that you mail them directly to the child's home. Due to confidentiality, I am not permitted to give you addresses/email addresses of other students. Please check last year's student directory.

Contacting me: If you ever have a question or concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. My email address is lantoon@northallegheny.org. You can also send a note with your child. I check my e-mail periodically throughout the day and will respond to any questions, comments, or concerns when I have available time.  If you need to get an urgent message to me during the school day, please call the office and leave a message with the secretary. I will do my best to return phone calls as soon as possible.

Open Door Policy:  I am here to help you. Working together as a team benefits your child. If you have any school related issues please make arrangements to speak with me immediately. I cannot solve a problem that I am unaware of. Please do not let the issue go on too long as it becomes more difficult to correct. I am available to talk to you before school, after school, or any other available time that may I have. Let’s make this a team effort!

If I left any questions unanswered, please feel free to contact me. Curriculum Night will be held on Thursday, September 9th from 6:30 to 8:30 in room 21/2C and will further address issues regarding curriculum, grading policies, and much more. I am looking forward to teaching your child and working closely with you to ensure your child’s success!

Here’s to a great school year!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Lynn Antoon
