• Elementary Summer Reading Suggestions

     
    The best predictor of school success is the amount of time spent reading and enjoying books. Experts note that most young readers suffer a backslide in reading skills during summer downtime. But that needn't be the case. Families can make reading a priority during the summer months, and children will learn that people never take a vacation from learning. Here are some great resources that may help your child enjoy a summer that make time for learning!

  • Summer Reading Programs

    Northland Public Library's Summer Reading Program is virtual again this summer! 

    From Northland's Website: Summer Reading is going virtual!  A summer full of stories, STEAM activities, take-home projects, Dungeons & Dragons, and of course, reading! Summer Reading fun for readers and not yet readers, tots and teens and all kids in-between!  Join in the fun from home when you sign up as a Summer Reader through Beanstack then take part in virtual programs from June 1 through August 6.  Do a little, or a lot.  No pressure, just summer reading fun!

    Log every book you read on the Beanstack app.  Beginning June 1, click here to sign up and log your books at home.  You can also download the Beanstack Tracker App to easily log your books: Google Play or Apple App Store.

    Riverstone Books Summer Reading

    From the Riverstone Books Website: Our summer reading program for kids in grades K-5 is back! Instead of distributing Reading Journals this year, we invite you to download this book report form. Then read five age-appropriate books. Fill out the book report form and bring it to the store when you’ve completed it, and you can pick out a free book!

    If you’re not sure what to read, we’re assembling a library of summer reading lists from schools and associations that can help you choose what books to read.

    If you can’t visit us, ask your parents to scan your report and email it to robin@riverstonebookstore.com. Summer reading program begins June 1 and ends July 31. Reminder: you don’t have to buy books from Riverstone to participate; you can read books from your home or public library. If you have any questions, please call the store at 412-366-1001.


    Barnes Noble  

    Barnes and Noble Summer Reading 

    Students in grades 1-6 can earn a FREE book, simply by following these three easy steps:

    Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Summer Reading Journal (English or Español). Tell us which part of the book is your favorite!

    Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between July 1 and August 31, 2021. 

    Choose your FREE book from the book list featured in the journal.
