First grade students in North Allegheny will use the GO MATH! by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Math Series for Mathematics instruction. The program is based on scientific research that focuses on effective learning processes and instructional strategies. First grade mathematics content is organized around developing concepts with inquiry-based experiences, hands-on experiences, practicing strategies with guided instruction, and mastering skills with repeated practice. The four critical areas are:

    1. operations and algebraic thinking
    2. number and operations in base ten
    3. measurement and data
    4. geometry

These include addition and subtraction, place value, length, time, graphing, and 3-D and 2-D shapes.

    Second Grade Mathematics

    Full Year/Full Time
Second grade students in North Allegheny will use the new math program, GO MATH! The program is based on scientific research that focuses on effective learning processes and instructional strategies that are essential for success in a wide range of learners. The series offers students inquiry based learning experiences throughout all concept areas. Each critical area of the program offers essential ideas and questions, educational standards, mathematical practices and assessments. Number sense and place value, addition and subtraction, measurement and data, geometry and fractions are the key components of the second grade curriculum. Real-world problem solving skills are explored and reinforced throughout the entire math program. The units of study provide instruction and practice on multiple-choice and short response standardized test questions on concepts and skills.
