- Letters & Sounds: Flip through flashcards or use the linked grid to have your child identify letter names and then letter sounds. Repetition will build automatic recognition!
- Sight Words: Practice the Kindergarten "popcorn" words. Repeated practice develops fluency!
- Decodable Words: Practice reading a few CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words each day, cumulatively blending the sounds.
- Phonemic Awareness: Practice identifying and manipulating sounds in words with the activities attached.
- Read: Continue to practice the decodable words, sentences, and books that have been sent home. Repetition builds confidence and mastery!
- Sounds: Flip through flashcards and have your child identify letter sounds. Dictate a few sounds and have your child spell/write the sounds. Repetition will build automatic recognition!
- Sight Words: Practice sight words. Begin with the pre-primer words and build from there after words are mastered. Repeated practice develops fluency!
- Decodable Words: Practice reading short vowel word lists or flashcards. Dictate CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) or CCVC (beginning blend) words and have your child spell/write the words.
- Read: Continue to practice the decodable books that have been sent home. Repetition builds confidence and mastery!
- Read: Read any book, passage, or magazine article of interest and practice using comprehension strategies to gather meaning from text. Keep a journal to record visualizations, questions, connections, reflections, etc. Follow the Ways to Promote Reading at Home from above.
