Spring NA FCCLA FIDM Fashion Show

   2019 PAFCCLA Leadership Conference

NA FCCLA FIDM Fashion Club competed in the PA FCCLA State Conference in the following events: Recycle & Redesign, Entrepreneurship, Chapter in Review Display, and Fashion Construction. Recycle & Redesign and Entrepreneurship won first place and a bid to nationals.

 SENIOR KITCHEN WORKSHOP

On Nov 2, 2017 the last Senior Kitchen Workshop of the season was held at NAI in the Family and Consumer Sciences department.

The workshop has been held each year at NAI for 35 plus years. 

The theme for the day was:  Food to Go 

The menu:  Chicken and Rice Casserole, Salad, Smores in a Jar.  The guests had "take out" to have later.  Casseroles and Salad in a Jar.

On Nov 9, our last meeting will be at Northern Area technical school for lunch.  We greatly appreciate our guests participation in the program.  They are the key to our success.  We look forward to our next year program. 

SALVATION ARMY GARBAGE BAG GALA

For this competition, student designers were challenged to create a wearable design using only recycled materials.  North Allegheny entered two designs.  The first design, created by Parastoo Aramesh (10^th grade, NAI) was modeled by Leela Pinnamaraju (10^th grade NAI).  This was a garbage bag sheath dress adorned with delicate tissue paper flowers.  The second design, created by the North Allegheny Fashion Class at NASH, was inspired by the "elements of design" and features garbage bags, gold duct tape, and the showstopping paint chip skirt.  Kaleigh Flavin (11^th grade, NASH) was our model.  The paint chip dress won first place in the student design category!

FASHION CLUB EVENT

The NA FCCLA Fashion Club is holding its 2^nd annual fundraiser next Friday October 20, 2017 in the FCS wing at NASH (Room 197, Door 17).  This fundraiser directly benefits our club and helps provide FCCLA leadership opportunities to our members.  The money we raise from the fundraiser will help support the club as we attend regional, state, and national conferences and competitions.  The funds will also help support our annual spring fashion show that benefits Miss 22 Quties. Please consider stopping by next week to help support our club.

NASH FCS STUDENTS

NASH’s foods class enjoyed a visit from Ron Trout, owner/operator of the new Chick-fil-a coming to Wexford.  Ron discussed the business aspects of owning multiple franchises, the food safety and sanitation rules needed to operate, and how Chick-fil-a’s personable customer service keeps them an active competitor in the fast food industry despite being closed on Sundays.

 PROJECT BASED SERVICE LEARNING

Over 200 North Allegheny FCS students participated in a community service project early this fall. The project involved designing and constructing mats for homeless individuals to sit/sleep on. The fabric textile pieces for the project would have been designated as "trash" by Levin's Furniture store. One store associate, Isabella Love, reached out to the FCS department when she came up with the idea to construct something useful out of these discontinued fabric samples. Students in 8th grade FCS classes across the district and those in NAI's Independent Living class, participated in the project. Students learned sewing basics and worked in groups designing and constructing the mats. Now many Levin's stores are on board and sending their swatches for the project to continue with more student involvement throughout the year. So far, thirty seven mats have been completed and will be distributed by Wexford Community Presbyterian Church.
