    Scholarships


    Applications for all scholarships must be received by Friday, April 9, 2021. Applications are now online. Letters of recommendations can be either uploaded to the application or submitted to the NASH Counseling Office. 

    NA Foundation Scholarship for Excellence in Academics 
    Excellence in Academics Scholarship Application

    This $1,000 scholarship goes to the top senior applicant who demonstrates a desire to continue to pursue academic excellence, a GPA of 3.75 or higher, and an intent to pursue post-secondary education (College, University or Technical School). Using a rubric, the senior applicant with the highest traits of excellence in academics is awarded $1,000 by the Foundation.

    Arts Application

    This $1,000 scholarship goes to the top senior applicant who has a desire to continue to pursue excellence in artistic or musical endeavors, a GPA of 3.4 or higher, and an intent to pursue post-secondary education (College, University or Technical School). This is assessed using a rubric and the winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

    Leadership Application

    This $1,000 scholarship goes to the top senior applicant who has demonstrated a desire to continue to pursue leadership experiences in college, a GPA of 3.75 or higher, and an intent to pursue post-secondary education (College, University or Technical School). This is assessed using a rubric and the winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Foundation.

    NA Foundation Scholarship for Excellence in Service
    Service Application

    The criteria for this $1,000 scholarship are demonstrating a desire to continue to pursue service experiences in college, a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and an intent to pursue post-secondary education (College, University or Technical School). This is assessed using a rubric and the winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Foundation.

    NA Foundation Extra Effort Scholarship
    Extra Effort Scholarship

    This $1,000 scholarship provides financial assistance to a graduating North Allegheny senior who has demonstrated improved academic performance or has maintained an adequate level of achievement in spite of personal challenges. The student should be in the top half of the class but not in the top 20%.

    This scholarship goes to the top senior applicant who has demonstrated an ability to overcome challenges when pursuing personal goals, a GPA of 2.8 or higher, improved academic performance or maintenance of adequate achievement in spite of personal hardships or challenges, and an intent to pursue post-secondary education (College, University or Technical School). This is assessed using a rubric and the winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Foundation.

    Frank J. Farina Jr. Award for Musical Excellence
    Frank J. Farina Jr. Application

    Frank J. Farina Jr. served as the Chairman of the North Allegheny Music Department and Director of Bands, including "The Marching 300," for 26 years. Frank had a deep passion for teaching, music, and family. He brought the world of music to countless students and showcased their talents with many college bowl game appearances, including the prestigious Rose Bowl and regional awards bands. He also took students abroad to perform concerts to European audiences, showing goodwill to others through music as the Director of the American Youth Symphony. He chaired many musical boards and helped to found local performing groups.

    The Farina Foundation is offering one $1000.00 scholarship to this year’s top senior in the musical arts. This student must demonstrate a GPA of 3.0 or higher, commitment to continue his/her music education at a four-year college or university, demonstrates previous musical extracurricular activities, and writes an essay expressing his/her passion for music or how music has positively affected his/her life.

     Joseph Wissinger Memorial Scholarship

    Joseph Wissinger Application

    Joseph Wissinger served as a Science and Biology Teacher in the North Allegheny School District from 1953-1986 and for four of those years Mr. Wissinger was the science coordinator for the school district. Over those 33 years, he received many awards and accolades for the devotion to his students and his teaching skills. The greatest reward came back to Mr. Wissinger from many former students who wrote letters to him periodically writing that he had made such an impact on their lives and subsequent futures through his teachings.

    As a living memorial to Joseph Wissinger, his family wanted to establish a scholarship by providing financial assistance to a graduating North Allegheny student who has a commitment to pursuing a career as a public school teacher in the field of Science or Biology or a commitment to helping others in the medical field. The family looks forward to communicating with the awardee through their college career as Mr. Wissinger’s legacy lives on in the student’s future endeavors in the field of Science.

    Sally Duffett Scholarship
    Sally Duffett Scholarship for Distinguished Achievement

    Sally (Hughey) Duffett was a lifelong educator, beginning her career as a Health and Physical Education Teacher and Varsity Swimming Coach at North Allegheny Senior High School, and concluding her career as a Paraprofessional at Bradford Woods Elementary School. Between these professional roles, Sally and her husband raised three children in the North Allegheny School District and Franklin Park community. Her family supported North Allegheny academics, athletics, performing arts and community involvement at all levels of education. Sally's positivity and selfless attitude were treasured by all who knew and worked with her. Sally dedicated her life and career to helping others and left a lasting mark on many aspects of scholastic life at North Allegheny.

    The family of Mrs. Duffett is offering a scholarship in her memory and wishes to provide financial assistance to a graduating North Allegheny senior who demonstrates a passion for athletics and community service. The Duffett family is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a graduating senior and varsity athlete.

    This $5,000 scholarship is for one or two North Allegheny Seniors who will be attending Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA and who have demonstrated financial need.

    Laura Sosovicka Memorial Scholarship

    The family and friends of Laura Sosovicka are offering a scholarship in her memory and wish to provide financial assistance to a graduating North Allegheny senior who is a Girl Scout with strong leadership skills and demonstrates a passion for serving others. The $1,000 scholarship will be given to at least one deserving Girl Scout.

    A scholarship in memory of Nathan Trapuzzano for students who have studied Latin, Math, and Orchestra.

    Kyle Chase Johnson Memorial Scholarship

    This year, one $750 scholarship is being offered in honor of Kyle Chase Johnson. This scholarship provides financial assistance to a graduating North Allegheny senior who has demonstrated improved academic performance or has maintained an adequate level of achievement in spite of personal challenges. The student must be accepted to and plan on attending Penn State University. The student should be in the top half of the graduating class.
