Dear Families,
Welcome to a new school year! I will be your child’s first grade teacher, Marie Noonan. I am excited to work with you and your child as they enter first grade! Our classroom number is 309 and we are section 1B. This is my eleventh year teaching first grade and I cannot wait to meet your children on August 23rd! It will be a great year full of learning and fun activities!
Supply List
1 clear plastic "Sterilite" 6 Qt./5.7 L shoe box with removable lid. These can be found at WalMart, K-Mart or Target. Please label this with your child’s name and 1B. This will serve as a drawer in their desk. Please do not get one with side locks, as these have a hard time fitting in the desks. If you are having trouble finding one, a pencil box or bag would also work.
½ inch binder. This will be used as a take home binder and can be any color.
1 pair of child size scissors
1 pack of crayons
1 pack of glue sticks
1 “chunky” pink eraser
1 box of tissues
1 set of headphones in a Ziploc bag
You do not have to send in all of the supplies on the first day. It is fine if you would like to send them throughout the first few days of school.
Lunch
This will be the first time students have the opportunity to buy lunch at school. If your child is buying, please send money ($2.45) in a zip lock bag or a sealed envelope. You may have your child participate in the lunch program where they have a “bank” of money they can take from daily. Checks for this account can be sent in any day of the week. More information can be found on the district homepage or at www.payschoolscentral.com.
If your child does choose to buy their lunch, they will need to enter a PIN number when they check out. Included in a letter that I will send home soon is your child’s PIN as well as a practice keypad. This is included to help your child familiarize themselves with the keypad and their number. Your child does not need to have this number memorized on the first day of school. They will receive a copy of their number to take with them to lunch and there will be plenty of adults ready to help during the first few weeks of school as they become familiar with the lunch process!
Bus
You will be receiving a letter from me soon, and included in this letter is a yellow school bus cut-out. Please write your child’s first and last name as well as the bus they will be riding home from school each day on this bus. You can also indicate if they will be a car rider or are going to an afterschool facility, such as the YMCA. It is very important that we have this information, so please make sure to send this in with your child on their first day of school.
As a reminder, masks are required on NASD transportation.
Newsletter
Every week I will send a newsletter home stating the homework and what we will be doing in each subject that week. The newsletter and homework will also be posted on our class website. I will send the first newsletter home on curriclum night. I will send another copy home on the first day of school.
Class Website
Our class website will include homework, special events, spelling words, and other resources. To access this website please visit the North Allegheny homepage, select NA Schools, and then McKnight. From this page please select Building Staff, where you find an alphabetical listing of all the staff. You will find me under the “N” section!
Curriculum Night
August 19th is curriculum night at 6:30 pm. We will be discussing the first grade curriculum, classroom procedures, upcoming events, and highlights of first grade. You will also have an opportunity to look through our classroom texts. When you first arrive in the classroom, please be sure to sign in, as well as choose your November parent-teacher conference day and time. There will also be volunteer sign-ups for special first grade activities. There will be a file folder filled with information inside on your child’s desk that you may begin reviewing while we are waiting for others to join us. My presentation will last approximately 40 minutes to an hour.
If you ever have any questions or need to get in touch with me, please do so! My email address is MNoonan@northallegheny.org. You may also leave a message with the office or send a note in with your child. The office phone number is 412-635-4105 or 412-635-4101.
Thank You!
Marie Noonan
