    Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma.  Death from bleeding can occur in less than 5 minutes.  It can take several minutes for emergency services to arrive at most accident scenes. Bystanders are often the first to lend a helping hand and can help save a person's life (BLEEDING CONTROL.COM and UPMC, 2019).

    The following steps are ways to help control bleeding until emergency services arrive:
