    The North Allegheny School District has adopted the Scott Foresman Social Studies text to assist us in delivering a comprehensive Social Studies curriculum.  The following is a brief overview of the unit-based study for this year:

    law                              
    A rule that everyone must follow.
    vote
    to make a choice about something
    community
    A place made up of many neighborhoods.
    history
    Tells the story of people and places from the past. 
    urban
    A type of area that is made up of a city and the places around it. 
    suburb
    A type of community that is located near a city.
    rural
    An area with small communities called towns and wide open spaces for farming.
    capital
    A city where the leaders of a state work.

    A useful material that comes from the Earth.
    crop
    A kind of plant grown by people for food and other uses.
    conservation
