• Welcome

Parents often wonder if their child is ready for first grade.  Here is a list of incoming first grade expectations.

Upon entering First Grade,  we expect:

    • our new students to identify ALL 26 uppercase and lowercase letters
    • our new students to identify both consonant sounds and the short vowel sounds
    • our new students to identify ALL of the Kindergarten sight words, both in isolation and in print
    • our new students to blend 3 sounds together to make a CVC word
    • our new students to read 3 word sentences
    • our new students to print uppercase letters, along with the corresponding lowercase letters
    • our new students to identify numbers to 31
    • our new students to rote count to 100
    • our new students to identify and extend simple patterns
    • our new students to identify colors and color words
    • our new students to identify and name simple shapes
    • our new students to read ALL kindergarten sight words

If your child struggled in Kindergarten with these skills, PLEASE be sure to practice daily to ensure a smooth transition and help ease frustration.   I truly look forward to working with you and your child to make First Grade a FABULOUS year!
