Parents often wonder if their child is ready for first grade. Here is a list of incoming first grade expectations.Upon entering First Grade, we expect:- our new students to identify ALL 26 uppercase and lowercase letters
- our new students to identify both consonant sounds and the short vowel sounds
- our new students to identify ALL of the Kindergarten sight words, both in isolation and in print
- our new students to blend 3 sounds together to make a CVC word
- our new students to read 3 word sentences
- our new students to print uppercase letters, along with the corresponding lowercase letters
- our new students to identify numbers to 31
- our new students to rote count to 100
- our new students to identify and extend simple patterns
- our new students to identify colors and color words
- our new students to identify and name simple shapes
- our new students to read ALL kindergarten sight words
